Dimensional Arts

Foundation's Three-Dimensional Arts area includes the required Three-Dimensional Arts studio course as well as an array of three-dimensionally based studio electives. The professors who teach in this area bring a wide range of knowledge, creative energy, and excitment to their courses. Experience gained from the coursework in the 3-D area is especailly relevant to the art and design student today because we live, work and experience life in the physical reality of our three-dimensional world. Excellence in 3-D visual communication is crucial in a variety of art and design fields.

The required studio course introduces students to basic principles of form, space, volume, and composition. Traditional as well as contemporary modes of thinking and creating are introduced. Personal growth and discovery, idea development, and creative problem solving are strongly emphasized. Students explore basic additive, subtractive and constructive processes within a conceptual framework. Students learn to use a variety of materials, tools and techniques common to design and art-making processes.

The three-dimensionally based studio electives are courses that also study the etchnical and conceptual principles described, but in a more focused manner. These electives examine more specific themes, ideas, and/or processes. Examples of 3D electives content may include object making, installation art, figurative study, kinetic art and/or three-dimensional design. Studio electives course offerings change regularly in order to stay fresh and exciting.
