All B.F.A. and B.I. D. students in the School of Art and Design must declare their major in March of the spring semester of their freshman year. Those students who have already declared a major in their application to SU must make a confirmation of their choice of major at this time as well. Students do not officially enter into their major until their sophomore year.

It is hoped that during their first year, students will explore the different areas of the school. Throughout the fall and spring semester, students will have the opportunity to learn about various majors through presentations in classes, such as ART 080, meeting with students and faculty in different areas, and discussions with their advisor. Studio electives also give students the opportunity to explore various areas in the School of Art and Design.

After declaring or confirming a major in the spring, you will be assigned a new advisor in your declared area. You must meet with this advisor prior to registering for classes for the fall of your sophomore year.
