Eric Gustafson

Instructor, Applied Music and Performance (Viola)

Eric Gustafson has been a longtime principal violist of the Syracuse Symphony. He now holds that position with Symphoria. He is also on the adjunct faculty of Hamilton College. He studied violin at Juilliard with Ivan Galamian and composition at the Manhattan School of Music. Additional work in string quartet and viola took place via a fellowship at SUNY Binghamton, where he studied with Toby Apel. Gustafson is also a composer and a professional music engraver.

Gustafson has a broad understanding of the viola literature as well as orchestral music for the viola. He is also a founding member of the DeVere Quartet, which has given chamber music recitals and fundraisers in Central and Southern New York and Alaska.
