Introduction

In the communication and rhetorical studies major you learn the theoretical frameworks, techniques, and methods that guide the study of human beings as communication and rhetorical beings. You also learn how communication constructs our social worlds and shapes our relationships with others and our own humanity. Our courses prepare students to think broadly and critically about the capacity of communication to alter and redefine notions of human action and citizenship. As such, coursework addresses issues like ethics, persuasion, gender and race relations, social criticism, popular culture, identity, intercultural communication, sexual communication, and family communication. Our mission is to equip students with a sophisticated understanding of communication and with an array of critical skills to change and improve their professional and personal endeavors.
