Announcements

Congratulations to Dr. Amardo Rodriguez for being appointed as a Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor of Teaching Excellence . This award recognizes and rewards outstanding teaching at Syracuse University, and emphasizes the great importance the University places upon teaching.

Continuing Education: After the Spring 2006 graduation many of our graduate and undergraduate students have decided to continue their education in Masters or Ph.D. programs- Good luck and keep in touch!

  • CRS Graduate Students moving into doctoral programs include: Marsha Atteberry (Arizona State), Gregory Dorchak (University of Massachusetts) and Diana Martinez (University of Texas at Austin).
  • CRS Undergraduate Students moving into graduate programs include: Greer Gordon (Syracuse University, Masters in Communication Sciences and Disorders)

Curriculum: As of Fall 2006, Sign Language will not count as a means of fulfilling CRS language requirements.

With the department name change in 2003, a curriculum change took place. View the Undergraduate curriculum update that will impact Freshmen entering in Fall 2004 or later. This new program will allow more flexibility in combining our major with another major, another minor, or program abroad.

Capstone Course: As of the academic year 2005-06, seniors can also enroll in a new Senior Capstone Course. This is an elective course, offered beginning in the Spring semester of 2006, allowing seniors to engage in a semester-long research project guided by a faculty member.

Honor Society: All CRS majors are now eligible to apply for membership in the National Communication Association's Honor Society Lambda Pi Eta. If you wish to become a member of Lambda Pi Eta, you must complete the chapter application form. Membership in Lambda Pi Eta costs $30. In addition to being able to cite this membership in an academic honors society, members can also present papers at the National Communication Association's annual meetings, meet communication scholars and fellow students from other academic institutions. Questions? Contact department Honor Society coordinator Dr. Ken Johnson at 315-443-5135.

Students Offering Service: To assist with these activities, please e-mail Professor Rachael Gazdick, or call 443-2901.
