Mike Curato is the author-illustrator of everyone’s favorite polka-dotted elephant, Little Elliot. Curato’s debut title in the series, Little Elliot, Big City has won numerous awards (including an Ezra Jack Keats New Illustrator Honor and the Society of Illustrators Founder’s Award) and has been translated into more than 10 languages.
There are now four additional Little Elliot books: Little Big Family; Little Elliot, Big Fun; Little Elliot, Fall Friends; and Merry Christmas, Little Elliot. Curato is the illustrator of Worm Loves Worm by J.J. Austrian, All the Way to Havana by Young People’s Poet Laureate Margarita Engle, and What if… by Samantha Berger. He is also working on his debut young adult graphic novel, Flamer.
Born and raised outside of New York City, Curato has been drawing ever since he could hold a pencil. He attended Syracuse University, earning a B.F.A. in illustration. After college, he worked as a graphic designer for the better part of 10 years until his dream of making picture books became a reality when Henry Holt Books for Young Readers offered him a three-book deal. These days, Curato lives in Northampton, Massachusetts, with his husband Dan and puppy Leia, where he loves to draw, write, and eat lots of cupcakes.
