Transmedia

The Department of Transmedia is a major academic center for the education of media arts professionals. Our programs offer you rewarding studio experiences in well-equipped facilities, simultaneously integrated with rigorous academic studies and challenging curricula in media arts history as well as comprehensive and diverse theory and contemporary issue courses.

As a student in the department, you also benefit from elective studio and academic opportunities in the School of Art and Design, the College of Visual and Performing Arts, and Syracuse University’s other schools and colleges. You are also encouraged to study abroad in such cities as London, England; Florence, Italy; and Prague, Czech Republic.

Integral to our curricula are opportunities to acquire career development skills critical for professional artists. Professional practices are addressed in coursework, while visiting and resident artists offer unique insight into their respective disciplines. Internships provide invaluable experience in a real-world setting. Undergraduate students may choose to minor in entrepreneurship and emerging enterprises, which is offered through SU's Martin J. Whitman School of Management and includes coursework in essential business tools.

The Department of Transmedia is comprised of 12 full-time faculty members (complemented by approximately the same number of adjunct instructors) who serve approximately 250 undergraduate and graduate students.
